What the figures on your dashboard mean and where each one comes from.
Current value minus cost. Current value is your shares times the latest price we hold for that holding. Cost is your shares times the entry price you recorded, or the one your broker sent. Fees you record are kept with the holding and are not folded into that cost figure.
For each sale, proceeds minus the cost of the shares sold. On the dashboard and in your trade history that cost is the holding's average entry price at the time of the sale. The tax report matches the same sale under your country's rule instead (first in, first out, share pooling or average cost, see how the tax report works). The two figures agree once a holding is fully closed; while part of it is still held they can differ, and both are right for their own purpose.
Each holding is priced in the currency of its exchange, from the supplier listed for that exchange on our markets page. Stock prices refresh about once a minute during market hours, crypto more often. Outside market hours the last close stands.
Your dashboard shows everything in one display currency. Values and costs in other currencies are converted at the current rate, refreshed every hour. So the profit shown on a foreign holding moves with the exchange rate as well as with the price. The tax report is different: it converts each trade on its own day.
Every night we store a snapshot of each portfolio's value and cost. The period figures compare today against the snapshot at the start of that period. A holding added today has no earlier snapshot, so it joins the comparison from tomorrow.
Built from daily closing prices and your recorded trades, so the line reflects how many shares you held on each day, not today's count projected backwards. When the recorded trades cannot be squared with the holding as it stands (a holding entered by hand with no purchase history, for example), the chart carries today's share count across the period rather than invent a history.
Dividends are tracked on their own page and are not added to profit and loss. Interest, taxes and account charges are not tracked.
