Pricing: What You Actually Pay

Headline prices are rarely the full picture. Here is what each tool actually costs over time at the functionality level most active investors need.

PortfolioTrackr

Plans start at $9/month (Basic) or $19/month (Pro). Annual billing brings those down to roughly $6 and $13 per month respectively. The standout option is the $299 lifetime plan — the only one-time-payment option among all six tools compared here. At the Pro monthly rate you break even on the lifetime plan in about 16 months. If you plan to use a portfolio tracker for more than two years, the lifetime plan is the cheapest option on this entire list by a wide margin. There is no permanent free tier, but a 3-day full-access trial requires no credit card.

Sharesight

Sharesight's free tier is genuinely usable at up to 10 holdings with basic performance reporting. Paid plans start around $15/month and scale to $40/month for Expert tier. Annual billing saves approximately 16%. Note that Sharesight prices in AUD, NZD, and GBP depending on your region, so the USD equivalent fluctuates with exchange rates. The feature set most investors actually want — unlimited holdings, proper tax reports, and advanced dividend tracking — typically requires the Investor plan at around $25/month, making it one of the more expensive options here at that capability level.

Yahoo Finance

Free for basic tracking across an essentially unlimited range of markets. Yahoo Finance Plus at $24.99/month adds real-time data, advanced screeners, and analyst reports — but does not add WhatsApp, Telegram, or stop loss signals. For passive investors who just want to see portfolio value, free Yahoo Finance is completely adequate. The Plus tier is difficult to justify unless you specifically need the research and screener capabilities.

Kubera

One pricing tier: $150/year ($12.50/month effective), with no monthly billing option and no free tier. For a pure net worth tracker that consolidates everything into one view, $150/year is reasonable. But if you primarily want portfolio performance and alerts rather than a unified net worth view, you are paying for features you will rarely use.

Delta

Free tier covers basic tracking across stocks and crypto. The Pro plan at around $9.99/month (or roughly $7/month billed annually) adds real-time crypto prices, advanced analytics, and more alert options. Delta's pricing is competitive, but its core strength is crypto — equity investors pay for depth they will not fully use.

Empower

Entirely free for all tracking and planning tools. Revenue comes from upselling their human financial advisory service, which starts at around 0.89% of assets under management. The free tools are genuinely solid for US investors, but expect regular prompts toward the advisory service. For anyone outside the US, Empower is essentially unusable.

💡
Long-term cost reality: Over three years, Sharesight Investor costs roughly $900. PortfolioTrackr Pro costs $684 at monthly pricing or $299 lifetime. Delta Pro costs $360. Kubera costs $450. Yahoo Finance and Empower cost $0. The free tools have real costs in missing features; the paid tools have real costs in cash. Choose based on which features you will actually use, not the lowest headline number.

Exchange & Market Coverage

This is where the tools diverge most sharply — and where choosing the wrong one creates real problems that no workaround fixes. An investor holding UK and UAE stocks simultaneously has almost no good options outside PortfolioTrackr and Yahoo Finance (with Yahoo's UAE data being unreliable).

United States

Every tool on this list handles US markets (NYSE, NASDAQ) well. This is table stakes. All six tools deliver accurate US P&L and dividend tracking. Do not choose between these tools based on US market support — they all do it properly.

United Kingdom (LSE)

PortfolioTrackr, Sharesight, Yahoo Finance, Delta, and Kubera all support LSE stocks with GBP pricing and proper currency handling. Empower does not support non-US markets in any meaningful way.

UAE — ADX and DFM

This is the sharpest gap in the market. PortfolioTrackr is the only tool in this comparison with native, reliable ADX and DFM support — live prices in AED, accurate P&L in local currency, and alerts when your Emaar or ADNOC position moves. Yahoo Finance has some UAE tickers but coverage is patchy and the tool is not designed for UAE-based investors. Every other tool in this comparison requires manual price entry for UAE stocks, which defeats the purpose of a tracker.

India — NSE and BSE

PortfolioTrackr, Sharesight, Yahoo Finance, and Delta all support Indian markets with INR pricing. NSE and BSE coverage has improved significantly across the industry in the past two years. Kubera has partial support requiring manual entry for some tickers.

Africa — JSE and NGX

South Africa (JSE) and Nigeria (NGX) are underserved by every tool except PortfolioTrackr. Yahoo Finance has some tickers available but coverage is inconsistent. Sharesight has limited JSE support. Delta and Kubera do not meaningfully support African exchanges. For investors in the Gulf, East Africa, or West Africa with local market positions, this gap is real and most tools simply pretend these markets do not exist.

15+
Exchanges (PortfolioTrackr)
40+
Exchanges (Sharesight)
50+
Exchanges (Yahoo Finance)

Raw exchange count is not the full picture. Yahoo Finance supports more exchanges than anyone, but data quality and P&L accuracy vary significantly by market. For UAE, West African, and some Asian exchanges, a tool that supports fewer markets but handles them correctly is more valuable than one that lists them with unreliable data.

Alert Channels: The Feature Nobody Else Has Built

Portfolio alerts seem like a minor feature until you actually need one. Here is the scenario: you hold 3,000 shares of Emaar at an entry of AED 5.20 and you have set a target at AED 8.00. You are in a meeting. The stock hits AED 8.05. You find out three hours later when you open your laptop. That three-hour gap is a real cost — and the channel the alert arrives on determines whether you see it in time to act.

Why channel matters more than most people realise

Email alerts have a documented delivery and open rate problem. Transactional emails can take anywhere from minutes to hours depending on spam filters, server load, and email client sync settings. Push notifications require an open browser or installed app. SMS works reliably but requires the service to maintain carrier relationships and navigate regional regulations.

WhatsApp has a 98% open rate and typically delivers in under 30 seconds. Telegram is similar. For an investor who needs to act on a price movement during market hours, the difference between a WhatsApp message and an email is often the difference between catching a move and missing it. PortfolioTrackr is currently the only portfolio tracker in this comparison — and one of very few globally — that sends portfolio alerts via WhatsApp and Telegram.

The HOLD / SELL / CUT signal system

Most tools with alerts treat them as simple price triggers: notify me when this stock reaches $X. PortfolioTrackr's signal system goes further. Every position has three defined levels — Target 1, Target 2, and Stop Loss. The dashboard surfaces a real-time signal for each position: HOLD (between entry and target), SELL TARGET 1 (first target reached), SELL FULL (second target reached), or CUT LOSS (stop loss breached). When any level triggers, the alert fires across every channel you have configured simultaneously.

None of the other five tools here has an equivalent system. Yahoo Finance and Delta have basic price alerts, but they are single-level price triggers — not a structured entry/target/stop system tied to actual portfolio positions.

Each Tool in Depth

PortfolioTrackr

The honest positioning: PortfolioTrackr is the right tool for an investor who has already made their decisions and wants a system that tracks those positions, tells them when targets are hit, and delivers that information via the channels they actually check. It is not a research tool or a tax compliance tool. If you need those, use it alongside Sharesight for tax reporting and Yahoo Finance or a dedicated screener for research.

Sharesight

SHARESIGHT
Free (10 holdings) · from ~$15/mo · no lifetime option
BEST FOR TAX REPORTING

Sharesight was built from the ground up for reporting, and it shows in every detail. The dividend tracking is meticulous — it records every payment automatically, calculates yield on cost, and lets you view income by financial year. The capital gains tax reports are best-in-class for investors in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada, with specific integrations for local tax rules. Forty-plus exchanges are supported, with particularly strong coverage for ASX, LSE, TSX, and most European markets.

STRENGTHS

  • Best-in-class CGT and dividend tax reports
  • 40+ exchange coverage, strong ASX and LSE
  • Full dividend payment history, automatic recording
  • Performance reports against benchmarks
  • Genuine free tier (10 holdings)

LIMITATIONS

  • No WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS alerts
  • No UAE market support (ADX, DFM)
  • No stop loss or price target signal system
  • End-of-day prices on most plans
  • More expensive at comparable feature tiers

Sharesight is essentially a reporting and compliance tool that also tracks your portfolio. If you are a long-term buy-and-hold investor in an English-speaking market who needs accurate tax records at year end, it is the strongest option here. If you want to be alerted the moment a price hits your target, Sharesight will not do it.

Yahoo Finance

YAHOO FINANCE
Free · Plus at $24.99/mo
BEST FREE OPTION

Yahoo Finance's portfolio tracker is a byproduct of its broader financial data platform rather than a purpose-built product. That shows in both its strengths (vast market coverage, solid news integration, reliable free tier) and its weaknesses (no structured signal system, inconsistent data quality for non-US markets, cluttered interface). For someone who holds only US stocks and wants free tracking, it is completely adequate. For anyone who needs international market accuracy or meaningful alert channels, it falls short quickly.

STRENGTHS

  • Completely free for basic tracking
  • 50+ exchanges, massive ticker coverage
  • Integrated news, analyst ratings, earnings data
  • Email and push price alerts available

LIMITATIONS

  • No WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS alerts
  • No stop loss or structured signal system
  • UAE market data unreliable
  • Ad-heavy interface
  • 15-min delay on free tier

Kubera

KUBERA
$150/yr ($12.50/mo) · no free tier
BEST FOR NET WORTH TRACKING

Kubera solves a different problem: it is a net worth tracker that also handles investments, not an investment tracker that also shows net worth. If your financial picture includes real estate equity, private business stakes, vehicles, and bank balances alongside your portfolio, Kubera provides the cleanest consolidated view. For investors whose primary need is portfolio P&L, price targets, and alerts, Kubera offers very little.

STRENGTHS

  • Unified net worth across all asset classes
  • US and UK bank sync via Plaid and open banking
  • Clean, minimal interface
  • Useful for family or estate financial overview

LIMITATIONS

  • No price target or stop loss alerts at all
  • No WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS
  • No UAE market support
  • No free tier
  • End-of-day prices only

Delta (by eToro)

DELTA (by eToro)
Free tier · Pro ~$9.99/mo
BEST FOR CRYPTO-HEAVY PORTFOLIOS

Delta started as a crypto portfolio tracker and was acquired by eToro in 2019. It has since expanded into equities, but the crypto side remains far stronger. If your portfolio is 50%+ crypto — across multiple wallets and exchanges — Delta's 100+ crypto exchange integrations, DeFi tracking, and real-time crypto prices are unmatched in this comparison. The stock tracking works but is clearly not the focus, and alerts are limited to push and email with no WhatsApp or Telegram.

STRENGTHS

  • 100+ crypto exchange integrations
  • Real-time crypto prices on Pro plan
  • Polished native iOS and Android app
  • DeFi and NFT tracking
  • Generous free tier for crypto

LIMITATIONS

  • No WhatsApp or Telegram alerts
  • No UAE market support
  • Stock tracking secondary to crypto focus
  • No structured signal system
  • Limited tax reporting

Empower

EMPOWER
Free (financial advisory upsell)
BEST FREE US NET WORTH TOOL

Empower is the most capable free financial dashboard for US-based investors. Brokerage account sync, retirement planning projections, investment fee analysis, and basic portfolio tracking are all available at no cost. The catch is transparent: Empower generates revenue by routing users toward paid human financial advisory, and that upsell appears throughout the experience. Outside the US, Empower is close to unusable — it does not support non-US brokerage accounts and does not display prices in non-USD currencies.

STRENGTHS

  • Free brokerage sync for US accounts
  • Retirement planner and fee analyzer
  • Net worth dashboard included
  • Solid for US-only investors

LIMITATIONS

  • US-only — no international markets or brokers
  • No price target alerts or stop loss signals
  • No WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS
  • Heavy advisory upsell throughout
  • Limited crypto support

5 Investor Scenarios — Who Should Use What

Abstractions only go so far. Here are five real investor situations and the honest recommendation for each.

SCENARIO 01

UK expat in the UAE: holds HSBC (LSE) + Emaar (DFM) + Bitcoin

This investor has a multi-currency portfolio split across three completely different market types. Yahoo Finance can show the tickers but the DFM P&L calculation is unreliable. Sharesight does not support ADX or DFM. Kubera requires manual price entry for UAE stocks. Delta does not cover DFM at all. The only tool here that accurately tracks all three positions — with live AED, GBP, and USD prices — and sends a WhatsApp alert when any of them hits a target is PortfolioTrackr. This is exactly the use case the tool was built for.

SCENARIO 02

Australian investor: 15 ASX holdings, files taxes with ATO each year

This investor needs accurate dividend records, cost basis tracking, and a report that simplifies CGT calculation for an Australian tax return. Sharesight is the right choice. Its ASX coverage is excellent, it records dividend reinvestment plans automatically, and the ATO tax report is purpose-built for Australian investors. PortfolioTrackr lacks tax reporting entirely. Yahoo Finance and Empower cannot produce an ATO-compatible CGT report. There is no serious competition here for this use case.

SCENARIO 03

Active trader: 20 positions across NASDAQ and NSE, travels constantly

This investor needs to be notified immediately when a position moves. They are in meetings or on flights when markets open. Push notifications are unreliable without an open app. Email is too slow. PortfolioTrackr with WhatsApp or Telegram alerts is the answer. The structured HOLD / SELL T1 / SELL FULL / CUT LOSS system eliminates the need to monitor manually. When Target 1 is hit on any position, the WhatsApp message arrives in under 30 seconds. No other tool in this comparison provides this combination.

SCENARIO 04

US professional: 401k + 5 stock positions, wants one free dashboard

This investor is not an active trader and does not need price target alerts or international exchange support. Their primary need is a clean view of total financial position at no cost. Empower is the right tool — it syncs US brokerage accounts automatically, includes retirement projection tools, and is entirely free. Yahoo Finance works for the portfolio piece. There is no compelling reason for this investor to pay $9/month for capabilities they will not use.

SCENARIO 05

Crypto-first investor: holds across 3 wallets and 2 exchanges, some stocks

This investor's biggest pain point is consolidating crypto across multiple wallets and exchanges into a single view with accurate cost basis. Delta is the strongest option — its 100+ crypto exchange integrations and DeFi tracking are unmatched here. PortfolioTrackr tracks crypto but does not sync wallets automatically. As the traditional stock component grows to equal importance, this investor should consider running Delta for crypto consolidation alongside PortfolioTrackr for the structured alert layer on equity positions.

Honest: Where PortfolioTrackr Falls Short

Since we built PortfolioTrackr, it would be easy to write around its weaknesses. We are not going to do that, because choosing the wrong tool costs real time and money. Here is where PortfolioTrackr genuinely loses to the competition:

No native mobile app

PortfolioTrackr is a Progressive Web App. It works well in a mobile browser and can be added to your home screen, but it is not in the App Store or Google Play. If you want a native app that delivers push notifications in the background without opening a browser, Delta, Sharesight, Yahoo Finance, Kubera, and Empower all have native apps. In practice, PortfolioTrackr's WhatsApp and Telegram alerts compensate for this — but if you specifically want an App Store installation, it is not available.

No tax reporting

There are no capital gains tax reports, no dividend-by-tax-year summaries, and no HMRC, ATO, or IRS-formatted output. If tax reporting is a core requirement, the correct answer is Sharesight. Many investors run both: PortfolioTrackr for real-time tracking and alerts, Sharesight for annual tax reporting. The combined cost is still less than Sharesight's Expert tier alone.

No broker sync

Positions are added manually or imported via CSV. There is no automatic connection to Interactive Brokers, Schwab, eToro, Saxo, or any other broker. If you trade frequently and do not want to update positions manually, this is genuine friction. Empower (US), Kubera (US and UK), and Delta (crypto exchanges) all offer some form of automatic sync.

15-minute delayed prices

Price data is delayed by approximately 15 minutes, which is standard for non-paying data consumers. For long-term investors and position traders, this is entirely irrelevant — a 15-minute delay on a position you plan to hold for months makes no practical difference. For day traders or anyone needing tick-level precision, PortfolioTrackr is not the right tool.

No fundamental data

There are no P/E ratios, earnings calendars, analyst price targets, revenue charts, or balance sheet data inside PortfolioTrackr. It tracks what you own and tells you when to act on it. It does not help you decide what to buy. For research, use Yahoo Finance, Morningstar, or a dedicated screener alongside it.

⚠️
The honest summary: PortfolioTrackr is built for one thing — tracking active positions across multiple international markets and alerting you immediately when something requires attention. If your needs go substantially beyond that into tax compliance, net worth tracking, automatic broker sync, or fundamental research, it needs to be supplemented with another tool or may not be the right primary choice.

Final Verdict

The portfolio tracker market is fragmented because investors have genuinely different needs, and no single tool serves all of them well. Here is the cleanest version of the recommendation based on what actually matters:

  • You hold stocks across multiple international markets, especially UAE, India, or Africa — PortfolioTrackr is the only serious option.
  • You need to be notified via WhatsApp or Telegram when a price target is hit — PortfolioTrackr is the only tool here that does this.
  • You need capital gains tax reports for HMRC, ATO, or CRA — Sharesight, no contest.
  • You are crypto-primary and want wallet and exchange aggregation — Delta.
  • You want a free unified view of all your US financial assets — Empower.
  • You want free portfolio tracking with no special alert requirements — Yahoo Finance.
  • You want to see your total net worth including real estate and bank accounts — Kubera.

For many serious investors — particularly those outside the US or holding positions in emerging and frontier markets — the practical answer is two tools: PortfolioTrackr for real-time tracking and alerts, and Sharesight for annual tax reporting. Running both costs less than Sharesight's Expert tier alone and covers every meaningful use case on this list.
