A dividend income health check grades how reliable and concentrated your payout stream is, not just how much it pays. PortfolioTrackr's Pro Analytics tab turns four signals into one Income Health Score: payout-ratio safety, payer concentration, stale or suspended payers, and a payers-only portfolio yield. The core dividend tracker, with received and projected income, stays on every plan.
What is a dividend income health score?
A dividend income health score is a single grade that summarizes how safe, diversified and current your dividend stream looks, built from several underlying signals rather than one yield number. It answers a question a payout calendar cannot: is this income likely to keep arriving, and how exposed is it to a single payer cutting.
Most dividend tools stop at the calendar. They show you received year-to-date, a projected annual figure and the next few ex-dates. That is useful, and in PortfolioTrackr it is free on every plan, but it tells you nothing about the shape of the income underneath.
The health lens asks three harder questions:
- Is any single payer carrying too much of your income?
- Are the payout ratios behind your dividends sane, or stretched?
- Has anything you own quietly stopped paying without you noticing?
The problem a dividend calendar leaves unsolved
A dividend calendar tells you when money arrives, not whether it will keep arriving. You can look at a clean projected annual income of, say, $8,400 and feel settled, while one high-yield payer quietly provides 40% of it.
Here is where real income investors get caught:
- Concentration blindness. The headline yield looks fine, but a handful of names do most of the work. One cut and the projection is fiction.
- Payout-ratio stretch. A payer distributing more than it earns can look generous right up until the board resets the dividend.
- Stale payers. A company that skipped its last expected payment still sits in your portfolio at its old yield, inflating the projection.
None of these show up on a calendar. They show up on a summary card only if something is deliberately measuring them. That is the gap the Analytics tab is built to close, and it is the same honesty we bring to tracking monthly REIT dividends and projecting yield.
What the Pro Analytics tab actually does
The Pro Analytics tab adds four things on top of the free dividend tracker: an Income Health Score, a forward income calendar, payer-concentration analysis and a dividend history CSV export. Each is concrete, and each is honestly scoped.
The Income Health Score
The Income Health Score rolls the underlying signals into one grade so you can read your income stream at a glance. It reflects payout-ratio safety, how spread out your payers are, and whether any holding looks stale or suspended.
Two guardrails matter here:
- Payout ratios are sanity-gated. If a company's earnings data is broken, the score shows nothing for that input rather than a fake 400% payout ratio that would poison the grade.
- Stale or suspended payers are flagged from their payment cadence. If a quarterly payer misses its expected window, it is called out instead of silently inflating your projection.
The forward income calendar
The forward income calendar projects the payments you can expect across upcoming periods, built from each holding's known cadence and declared amounts. It extends the free upcoming-ex-dates view into a longer forward picture of the stream.
Payer-concentration analysis
Payer-concentration analysis shows how much of your income each holding contributes, so a single name carrying 40% of your dividends is visible instead of hidden. This is the single most useful view for anyone whose yield has crept up over time.
Dividend history CSV export
The dividend history CSV export gives you every recorded payment in a spreadsheet, dated and itemized. It is there for your own records and tax prep, and it pairs well with the thinking in portfolio tracker versus spreadsheet.
How to set up dividend health analytics step by step
Setting up dividend health analytics takes building a portfolio first, then opening the Analytics tab on a Pro or Lifetime plan. The core tracking works on any plan; the health view is the paid layer.
- Build your portfolio. Add holdings by manual entry, voice, text, CSV or a broker screenshot. These import paths work on every plan, including the free trial and Starter.
- Or connect a broker. Direct sync with Alpaca, Bybit and Interactive Brokers runs on every plan; the SnapTrade bridge, which connects 42 brokers, needs a paid Pro or Lifetime plan. Each connected broker gets its own read-only portfolio. See how to connect your brokerage account for the walkthrough.
- Let dividend data populate. Dividend amounts, ex-dates and cadence come from public market data feeds and are cached daily, so give it a day to settle.
- Open the Analytics tab on Pro or Lifetime. The Income Health Score, forward calendar and concentration view appear once there is enough history to read.
- Export the history any time with the dividend history CSV export for your own files.
If you hold stocks and crypto side by side, the same portfolio powers both, as covered in tracking stocks and crypto together.
What you see once dividend analytics is working
Once it is working, you see your income stream graded, mapped by payer and projected forward, instead of just listed by date. The pieces fit together like this.
- A single Income Health Score at the top, reflecting safety, spread and currency of your payers.
- A payer-concentration breakdown ranking each holding by its share of your income.
- A forward income calendar showing expected payments across coming periods.
- Flags on any stale or suspended payer, derived from a missed cadence.
- A portfolio yield honestly labeled "payers only", so names that pay nothing do not dilute the figure into something misleading.
That "payers only" label is deliberate. A yield averaged across your whole portfolio, including non-payers, can read artificially low and mislead you about what your income-producing holdings actually yield.
The honest limits of dividend health analytics
Dividend health analytics is informational, Pro-gated, and only as fresh as a daily cache. These limits are stated plainly on purpose, because a score you trust blindly is worse than no score.
It is informational, not advice
The Income Health Score carries an explicit disclaimer: "informational only, not financial advice." It reports how your income stream looks against its own signals. It does not tell you to buy, sell, trim or hold any position, and it never flags a name as a decision to act on.
The Analytics tab is Pro or Lifetime
The Analytics tab, including the Income Health Score, forward calendar, payer-concentration analysis and dividend history CSV export, is on Pro and Lifetime plans only. The core dividend tracker, with received year-to-date, projected annual income, portfolio yield and upcoming ex-dates, is on every plan, including the free trial and Starter.
Data is public and cached daily
Dividend data comes from public market data feeds and is cached daily. That means a freshly declared change may not appear until the next refresh, and the score reflects the last cached picture, not a live feed. Payout ratios depend on reported earnings, which is exactly why they are sanity-gated when the source data looks broken.
| Feature | Free plans | Pro / Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Received YTD, projected annual, yield, ex-dates | Yes | Yes |
| Income Health Score | No | Yes |
| Forward income calendar | No | Yes |
| Payer-concentration analysis | No | Yes |
| Dividend history CSV export | No | Yes |
Who dividend health analytics is for, and who it is not
Dividend health analytics is for income-focused investors with several payers who want to see the shape of their stream, not for someone holding one or two dividend names. The more payers you hold, the more concentration and cadence signals there are to read.
It fits you if:
- You run a multi-payer income portfolio and want concentration and staleness surfaced.
- You care about payout-ratio safety and want broken data gated out rather than shown as a fake number.
- You want a forward calendar and CSV for planning and records, and you are on Pro or Lifetime.
It is less useful if:
- You hold one or two dividend stocks, where concentration analysis has little to say.
- You want live, to-the-second data; the dividend feed is cached daily.
- You are hoping for a buy or sell recommendation, which the score explicitly does not provide.
If you are weighing the whole toolset, the honest portfolio tracker app comparison sets the Analytics tab in context against the rest of the product.
The bottom line
A dividend calendar tells you when money arrives; dividend health analytics tells you how reliable and how concentrated that money is. PortfolioTrackr keeps the core tracker, received, projected, yield and ex-dates, free on every plan, and reserves the Income Health Score, forward calendar, payer-concentration view and CSV export for Pro and Lifetime. The score is informational only, built on daily-cached public data, and it never tells you what to do with a position.
Frequently asked questions
What is a dividend income health score?
A dividend income health score is a single grade summarizing how safe, diversified and current your dividend stream looks. In PortfolioTrackr it reflects payout-ratio safety, payer concentration and whether any holding looks stale or suspended. It is informational only and does not recommend trades.
Is the Income Health Score free in PortfolioTrackr?
No. The Income Health Score sits in the Pro Analytics tab, which is on Pro and Lifetime plans only. The core dividend tracker, with received year-to-date, projected annual income, portfolio yield and upcoming ex-dates, is free on every plan, including the free trial and Starter.
Why does PortfolioTrackr label portfolio yield as payers only?
Because averaging yield across non-paying holdings would read artificially low and mislead you. The "payers only" label shows what your income-producing holdings actually yield, so names that pay nothing do not dilute the figure into something that misrepresents your real dividend stream.
How does the score handle a broken 400% payout ratio?
Payout ratios are sanity-gated. When a company's earnings data is broken, the score shows nothing for that input rather than displaying a fake figure like 400% that would distort your grade. Stale or suspended payers are separately flagged from their payment cadence.
How fresh is the dividend data in PortfolioTrackr analytics?
Dividend data comes from public market data feeds and is cached daily. A freshly declared change may not appear until the next refresh, so the score reflects the last cached picture rather than a live feed. Payout ratios depend on reported earnings, which is why they are sanity-gated.
