Export from your broker or app

Most brokers and portfolio apps have a CSV export option. In Sharesight it's under Reports. In Yahoo Finance it's the download button on your portfolio page. In most brokers it's in Account → Transaction History or Holdings.

Click Import in your dashboard

Can I import a short position?

Yes. PortfolioTrackr is one of the few trackers that handles short positions on import. We recognise shorts from any source: explicit "Position Type" or "Side" columns, negative shares (the IBKR / Schwab / Sharesight convention), trade-type codes like STO and SELL_TO_OPEN, and natural-language phrasing like "shorted 100 TSLA at 220" — in 11 languages.

Will importing overwrite my existing positions?

No. The import preview shows you exactly what will be added before anything is saved. You choose whether to add to existing positions or replace them. Nothing is automatic. You are always in control.

What if my CSV columns have different names?

The AI import reads common column names ("Symbol", "Shares", "Average Price", "Avg Buy") and most unusual ones too. Anything it could not read shows in the preview as a row to fix or a symbol to confirm, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

Is there a limit on how many positions I can import?

Pro users can track up to 5 portfolios with unlimited positions per portfolio. Lifetime users have unlimited portfolios and unlimited positions. There is no cap on the number of imports, on any plan. Very large files are read in pieces of up to 2,000 trades each.

Do imported positions get live prices immediately?

Yes. As soon as you confirm the import, PortfolioTrackr fetches live prices for all recognised tickers. Your P&L, portfolio value and position cards are all live within seconds.
