Fidelity Portfolio Tracker: See It Next to Everything Else

By James Whitfield · · 9 min read

If your Fidelity 401(k) sits in one app, your crypto in another, and an old brokerage somewhere else, no single screen tells you what you actually own. This guide shows how to connect Fidelity through a read-only link, what imports automatically, the exact plan limits that apply, and who this setup fits.

The problem: your money lives in three apps that never talk

A typical 401(k)-era investor holds more accounts than they think. The Fidelity app shows the retirement money and maybe a taxable brokerage, but it stops at Fidelity's walls. Your crypto is on an exchange, and an old rollover or a spouse's account sits somewhere else entirely.

That means no single number for net worth, no single profit and loss figure, and no way to see your real exposure to one company that you might hold in three places at once. Checking each app separately is slow, and the totals never line up the way you want them to.

A portfolio tracker is software that pulls your holdings from multiple accounts into one view and values them together, in a currency you choose. The point of connecting Fidelity is simple: make it one line in that view instead of a separate login.

What connecting Fidelity actually does

Connecting Fidelity links your account through SnapTrade with read-only access, so PortfolioTrackr can see your positions and trade history but can never place a trade. You authorize at Fidelity's own login page, and PortfolioTrackr never sees your password.

Here is what the connection does, concretely:

The read-only, no-password model is the same approach we describe in our guide on how to connect a brokerage account to a portfolio tracker, and it is the standard most serious trackers now use.

How to connect Fidelity step by step

Connecting Fidelity takes a few minutes and happens entirely through official login screens. You will need a paid Pro or Lifetime plan active before you start, because SnapTrade brokers are gated to those plans (more on that below).

  1. Open the Connect Broker screen in PortfolioTrackr and search for Fidelity in the broker list.
  2. Start the SnapTrade flow. You will be handed off to a secure authorization page rather than typing credentials into PortfolioTrackr.
  3. Log in at Fidelity's own login. You authenticate directly with Fidelity, including any two-factor step you normally use.
  4. Grant read-only access. Approve the view-only permission. This is where Fidelity confirms the connection can see data but not trade.
  5. Wait for the first sync. PortfolioTrackr creates a dedicated Fidelity portfolio and imports your positions, trade history and purchase dates.
  6. Check the import. Confirm share counts and buy dates look right before you rely on the totals.

After the first import, the roughly 15-minute auto-sync keeps everything current on its own. You do not log in again unless Fidelity's own session expires and asks you to re-authorize.

What you see once it works

Once Fidelity is connected, it becomes one portfolio among all your others, and the ALL PORTFOLIOS combined view adds it to everything else you track. That combined view is available on every plan for anyone with more than one portfolio.

One screen where all of it adds up

This is the core payoff for someone holding Fidelity plus a crypto exchange plus an old brokerage. You get:

Currency gains shown as their own line

If any of your holdings are priced in a currency other than your display currency, PortfolioTrackr converts the cost at the exchange rate of the day each holding was bought and the value at today's rate. The resulting currency gain or loss shows as its own line on the summary card and the P&L chart, so a move in the holding and a move in the exchange rate never get blended into one confusing number.

Price levels you set yourself

On any position you can set Target 1, Target 2 and a stop-loss level, and PortfolioTrackr reports status against your own levels: still below target, Target 1 reached, and so on. Stock and ETF levels are checked once a minute while the market is open, and crypto around the clock. Alerts reach you within a minute of your level being hit by email, WhatsApp, Telegram or push on every plan, with SMS on Pro and Lifetime.

The honest limits you need to know

Fidelity's connection has real restrictions, and you should know them before you rely on it. These are not fine print; they change whether this setup works for you at all.

Fidelity needs a paid Pro or Lifetime plan

The SnapTrade bridge, which connects 42 brokers including Fidelity, requires a paid Pro or Lifetime plan. It is not in the free trial or the Starter plan, and a free or promotional Pro month does not count.

If a paid plan is not active:

What works without SnapTrade

Plenty still works on every plan, including the free trial, so you are not locked out of tracking Fidelity entirely:

In short: automatic Fidelity sync is a paid feature, but a manual or CSV-based Fidelity portfolio is not. If you are weighing that trade-off, our portfolio tracker versus spreadsheet comparison lays out where automation actually earns its keep.

Who this is for, and who it is not

The Fidelity connection suits some investors far better than others. Here is an honest split so you can place yourself.

Who gets the most from it

This feature earns its keep for the multi-account investor. If that is you, our broader guide to putting several brokers on one dashboard shows how the same combined view handles Alpaca, IBKR and others alongside Fidelity.

Who should skip it for now

The bottom line

Connecting Fidelity turns a walled-off account into one line on a single screen that also holds your crypto and your other brokerages, valued together in any of 100 currencies. It is read-only, syncs about every 15 minutes, and imports your real trade history and purchase dates.

The honest catch is the plan: Fidelity through SnapTrade needs a paid Pro or Lifetime plan, pauses without one, and is removed after 7 days if a paid plan is not active. If that fits, it is the cleanest way to see everything add up. If it does not, manual and CSV import still let you track Fidelity on any plan, and directly supported brokers connect everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can PortfolioTrackr trade my Fidelity account?

No. The Fidelity connection is read-only. It can view your positions, cash balances and trade history, but it can never buy, sell, or move money. You authorize at Fidelity's own login and PortfolioTrackr never sees your password, so there is no way for it to place a trade.

Do I need a paid plan to connect Fidelity?

Yes. Fidelity connects through the SnapTrade bridge, which requires a paid Pro or Lifetime plan. It is not in the free trial or Starter, and a free or promotional Pro month does not count. You can still track Fidelity by manual, CSV or screenshot import on any plan.

How often does my Fidelity portfolio update?

About every 15 minutes. Once connected, PortfolioTrackr auto-syncs new trades, position changes and cash balances roughly every quarter hour without you logging in again. The first sync imports your existing positions, trade history and real purchase dates into a dedicated Fidelity portfolio.

What happens to my Fidelity data if my plan lapses?

The connection pauses and stops syncing. If a paid Pro or Lifetime plan is not active, the Fidelity connection is removed after 7 days, which also removes its imported positions from your view. Reconnecting under a paid plan brings the data back.

Can I see Fidelity next to crypto and other brokers in one view?

Yes. PortfolioTrackr's ALL PORTFOLIOS combined view adds your Fidelity portfolio to everything else, including crypto exchanges and other brokers, with a single net worth and profit-and-loss total in any of 100 currencies. That combined view is on every plan for anyone with more than one portfolio.
