The challenge with tracking UAE stocks

The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) use different ticker formats, different trading hours, and prices denominated in UAE Dirhams (AED) — not USD. Most global portfolio trackers are built around US-centric data sources that simply don't include these markets.

The result is that UAE investors who also hold US stocks or crypto typically end up with at least two tracking systems: one for their international portfolio and one for local UAE holdings. ADX vs DFM: what's the difference?

Both are regulated UAE stock exchanges, but they list different companies:

• ADX (Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange) — lists Abu Dhabi-based companies including ADNOC Gas, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Aldar Properties, and Etihad Aviation. Abu Dhabi's market has grown significantly since oil giant ADNOC listed several subsidiaries.
• DFM (Dubai Financial Market) — lists Dubai-based companies including Emaar Properties, Emirates NBD, Dubai Islamic Bank, and Air Arabia. DFM also includes the NASDAQ Dubai segment for internationally-focused listings.

Both exchanges trade Sunday to Thursday (a common source of confusion for investors used to Monday-Friday markets) and are denominated in AED.

ADX and DFM trading hours

Understanding UAE market hours is essential for interpreting live prices and P&L data:

• ADX hours: Sunday–Thursday, 9:30am–3:45pm (UAE time, GMT+4)
• DFM hours: Sunday–Thursday, 10:00am–3:50pm (UAE time, GMT+4)
• Both closed: Friday, Saturday, and UAE public holidays

Outside of these hours, prices shown in a portfolio tracker represent the last traded price — not a live quote. A good tracker makes this clear so you don't misinterpret a stale price as a live one.
